Farewell, 2008!

What a year! It's been a wild ride for me. I spent the vast majority of it either sick (the morning sickness with Suzi was the worst yet) or recuperating (three + months for my c-section incision to close, and it's still sore and lumpy), but it's all worth it every time I lay my eyes on Suzi. She is such an awesome baby. Sweet, happy and driven, which makes her truly hilarious to watch. That child is going to be a mover and a shaker someday.

This was also the year that I watched my oldest baby start Kindergarten. I knew I'd be emotional, seeing as how I'd just had a baby and all, but I was struck by just exactly how hard it was to watch that bus drive away from me for the first time. But we both did great, and now 2008 has become the year I've watched my first child learn to read. It's been both humbling and fulfilling watching him grow up. But he's still my little boy who often asks for a rock-a-bye at bedtime, his body curling all around us and his legs stretching way down the bed. Chris and I relish those moments, for we imagine it won't be long until Izzy think he's become too old to be rocked anymore. Perhaps in 2009? Not if we're lucky.

I've also watched Sophie's personality come into it's own, and WHAT a personality, indeed. She's incredibly empathic and mean as a snake all at once. Happy and despondent. She's amazingly full of personality, and she's a blast to have around. I never have to worry about filling the silence when Sophie's around, although I do have to tell her sometimes that my ears need a rest. This has been the year that I've gotten a glimpse into what a wonderful mommy Sophie is going to be someday - right down to watching her breastfeeding her baby dolls. And gently reproaching them when they bite her.

It's been a good year for Chris professionally, too. I think it's pretty awesome for him to be the CFO of his hospital at just 32 years old, and, even better, he seems to be enjoying the work. We're starting to relax here, letting our roots starts to set. It's a nice feeling.

It's been a great year. I recently read an article that said happiness stems from gratefulness, and I really think that's why I'm a happy, optimistic person. I am incredibly grateful for all that we have, most especially that we've been blessed with three healthy kids. They are such cool kids, and I enjoy the heck out of being their mom.

I can't wait to see what kinds of happiness 2009 brings!!
