Interesting. Very, very interesting.

I've met a couple of really cool people in the last two days.  Yesterday, I went to the Farmer's Market, which is just down the street from my office, and I visited Frog Creek books.  It's a sharp little bookstore that sells new and used books for half off the publisher's price, or less.  I struck up a conversation with him, and found out he has a website for those of you who can't make it to Charleston any time soon.  Their address is www.frogcreekbooks.com.  Check them out, and let me know what you think. I got Izzy a really cool book with some Spanish in it - Hola Jalapeno.

Then today a man, named Wes, comes by our office doing a little research on some labor history, and since I'm the "Director of Research and Publications" he was directed to me.  Now, I'm no researcher at all.  That's my fancy title, but I'm really more of a publications person.  Anyhow, I'm talking to this guy, and he ends up being a cattle farmer with a little farm in Ripley, WV, that takes in students for a week or so several times a year.  He's a professor too, so they work half a day on his farm in the mornings, and he teaches them in the afternoon.  That frees up his time to take on individual little projects, such as this labor history thing he's working on.  He has the perfect life.  Doing what he wants with the free time to pursue his interests.  He's helped organize the Patriots for Peace in this area, he has a Masters degree in Sociology, and he's been an active crusader for civil rights for 35 years.  He ended up giving me a book that he's written with the only payment being that I send him a note telling him what I think about it.  He also invited us up to spend the day visiting him and his wife on their farm.

My life is so awesome.  If I didn't work, however, I wouldn't have the opportunity to meet such fascinating people.  Of course, today was only such a great day because Chris was off.  He brought me to work, then he and Izzy got breakfast and came back for about an hour.  At noon, we all had lunch together, then they came back about 3:30 and  we all visited with my new friend Wes. Any day that I get to spend lots of time with my little man is awesome, and I had cool conversation all afternoon to boot.  What a good day I've had!
