I love this child of mine. He's such a sweet, loving, special kid. I know, I know, they probably all are, but I KNOW this one is. I love his little sideways drunken gait.
Today, after my blood test, we went to MamMaw Judy's (that's what she wants to be called) and spent the afternoon swimming. Ok, I spent the afternoon swimming. Chris wussed out very quickly, and Izzy shortly thereafter. But it wore all three of us out, and on the way back home - about 7:30 - Izzy and I fell asleep. That's one of my big pluses of pregnancy. Other than having to get up to pee so often, I sleep awesome and have the best dreams ever.
I picked Izzy up out of his carseat and carried him into the house, which is freezing cold. I have a little bit of a sunburn, so I'm really chilly. So I curl up with Izzy on the couch and I pull a little silk cozy up over us and he falls back asleep. He raises his head a couple of times, but all of his efforts were futile. There is nothing like laying curled up with your baby with each breathe mingling with his scent. Tonight, it was mildly chlorinated, but still sweet.
But we finally got back up when Chris had to go do his church treasurer stuff. Izzy went into the dining room to retrieve his hairbrush from a sunflower shaped bowl in which we keep salt and pepper grinders, and, apparently, baby hair brushes. He walked back to the living room where I sat reading about the sick babies, and he put his arms up to me to be picked up. I complied, and he carefully reached the brush towards my hair and very gently brushed it. He's pretty good at it, but like any good artist, he has to add his own twist, which in Izzy's case, is to wop me on the nose between sides of hair. He was so focused on his task, those big blues staring intently at my hair. He's so adorable.
We brushed hair for a while, then he kept running around our house. It goes living room, dining room, kitchen, utility room, hallway, and back to the living room. We have a door between the living room and hallway, which when closed, as tonight, makes Izzy want to run around and see how many times I'll follow him, open the door, and usher him and the four dogs back through. We're puppy-sitting for my sister this weekend, for Lady and Jessie. Our girls, Gammie and Deltie, and our cat, Crony Bob, all love them. We love keeping them, because they are such good, sweet dogs.
Just a minute before Chris got home, Jessie was jumping back and forth on our expensive, custom-made couch that our dogs are not allowed on, while Deltie was barking at her to get down. Gammie was laying in the floor, and Lady was playing with Izzy with his box of toys. It's a purple see-through vinyl box, and Lady was chewing on the edge and butting the side with her nose. She's almost 10 years old, which the rest of them are 3 - 4 years old, but she loves toys more than the rest combined. The cat was very suspiciously keeping watch over all of them. In fact, as I type this, Gammie and the cat are looking into the living room from the dining room, and they both look quite disdainful. It's a zoo in here right now. Izzy was running across the living room and got mad at me, so he stopped, made a mad little yell, and reached down and pulled Gammie's ear. Hard. Little monster. I yelled, "NO, Izzy! Bad!" So he leaned over Gammie and put his arm around her, and kissed her. Gammie is so good with him, it's amazing.
Today was a good day. Any day that I get to spend with my family all day is generally good, and when a swimming pool is thrown in, it's heaven. I'll end my lengthy post now, because it's driving Chris crazy trying to peer over my shoulder for a sneak preview. Have a good Labor Day, everyone!
