Where have I been, you ask???

Think I've been busy loving on Sophie and ignoring you all?? Well, the first part is true, but I've spent most of my time recovering from the c-section from hell! But, after six, long miserable days in the hospital getting poked and prodded, I'm finally home! I am ecstatic to be with my Izzy-man again, and to just be sitting on my own couch. The sun felt so good on my face when we walked out of the hospital today. It's amazing how much more you grow to appreciate your own things when stuck in a small room for nearly a full week. Life is good.

My incision opened a small bit on Friday and started pouring out infection. Went to the ER on doc's advice and there was a sign reading that the most serious cases would be seen first. The waiting area was full, so we both nearly had a heart attack when our wait was less than a minute. They ran tons and tons of tests, cultures, and I got to have a pelvic - woo-hoo. They said that they don't know what caused the infection, but it was a terrible one. That's what all the swelling in my stomach was. I've lost about 5 pounds of it now, but there is still about 15 or 20 pounds to go. Isn't that disgusting?? I look like such a circus freak right now. The infection was up to my rib cage, but it's now down to about 4 or 5 inches above my pubic bone. It looks like I have a tire around my hips, and it's hard as a rock. It was swollen and red all the way up, though, so definite progress is being made.

When I got to see my doctor I told him that it was hard for me not to tell him, "I told you so." My skin disorder causes me lots of problems healing and I repeatedly told him this would likely happen it he did a c-section, but he didn't take me seriously. Had he, he would have preemptively started me on antibiotics. He said this was maybe due to it, but probably just more bad luck. It was funny when he reassured me that it wasn't my fault, that I had done everything right. The thought that I was to blame had not crossed my mind, because that's just stupid. The doc made a big ol' mistake and was playing CYA. I certainly don't think it's negligence on his part, but I think maybe he should have scrubbed in a little bit harder.

But I am happy to be home now, with my little family. Now, I'm headed to the shower to wash off that hospital skank. Again, life is good!!
