My poor little Izzy may have broken his foot!! I say "may have" because we took him to Health Plus, which Chris refers to as a Doc in a Box for a reason. They said he has a mild fracture, but I'll believe it when the radiologist looks at the x-rays.
My sister moved some things into our garage to try and sell them. Chris and dad were headed outside tonight when Izzy just started bawling, so dad poked his head back in and asked if Izzy could go outside. I shook my head yes, of course, because the poor little thing was so sad! Mom and I were feeding Sophie her cereal when we heard Izzy scream. Now, he's a typical 2-year old, so screams are pretty common. But when we heard the scream again, we both jumped up. I threw Sophie into mom's arms and I ran as fast as I could through the sunroom.
By the time I reached the garage, I could hear them coming back in through the front door, so I sprinted back upstairs. Izzy is screaming his head off - it was horrible. His little foot was all black and blue and there was a long shallow cut across it. Plus, there were huge scratches all across his legs and his other foot too.
He had knocked the waterbed headboard over onto his foot. We grabbed a bag of frozen peas and put on his foot, and I just held him tight, my heart pounding. But we quickly realized that it was looking worse and worse, so I threw on some decent clothes and we were out of here in five minutes.
Once at Health Plus, those idiots made us wait and wait, then do tons of paperwork, all before they took him back for the x-rays. I was PISSED. My poor baby was screaming his head off, which is completely uncharacteristic for him, so I knew he was in a lot of pain. We were there a little over two hours, and he screamed and cried until about 10 minutes before we left.
As Chris was carrying him out to the van to head back home, I accidentally brushed against him foot. Poor little guy said, "Sorry mama!," like he had hit me! Broke my heart.
Health Plus said to just alternate Tylenol and Motrin and keep ice on it, and they'll call in the next day or two if we need to take him to an orthopedist for a cast. But he's doing much better tonight - was even able to hobble on it a little, which the doctor said was fine. He said that the foot would hurt him too bad for him to use it enough to damage it any further.
My sister Micki called tonight after we got home, looking for mom and dad, who had stayed here with Sophie. I told her what had happened, and she came over immediately to see her little guy. She's a very good aunt. She ended up putting him to bed, reading him the same book four times. Then she and I sat here and just visited until right after midnight! It was nice to get to spend some time with her sans kids and husbands. I think it made Izzy feel better too. While we waited, he pause crying long enough to ask for MeMe (what he calls Micki) and then all of our other family members. My guess is he just felt so bad that he wanted all the people with whom he has fun to be around him.
Izzy is sleeping pretty peacefully now, so it might not be as bad a night as I thought it would. But if he can't walk tomorrow, that will be a hard day for me - 35 pounds on one arm, 15 on the other! I won't mind. It was a truly heart-wrenching evening and I look forward to curling up with him all day long tomorrow.
