It's a few minutes past midnight, so my baby is officially one year old!! Technically, however, she won't be one until 6:24 p.m. ONE YEAR OLD. I can not believe Sophie has been in our lives this long, and yet, it seems like she's always been here. She is a very special baby. Of course, so was Izzy, so perhaps I'm a wee bit prejudiced. But seriously, she's an awesome baby. She's very sweet and loving, and she still loves to snuggle her downy head into the space between my neck and shoulder. Speaking of downy, yep, she's still bald-headed. But has there ever been a more beautiful bald head in the history of the world??
It's been wonderful to watch how different she and Izzy are. Both were very easy babies, but in wildly different ways. Sophie is a very determined, loud, and headstrong little girl, while Izzy was such a laid-back and quiet baby. BRB - she's crying for her first Birthday nursing...
When I got to her room she was standing in her crib, fussing up a storm at me for not getting there quicker. I picked her up and said, "Happy Birthday, Baby!" Her very first birthday wishes. I held her close and breathed in her sweet scent while a tear or two wet my eyes as a reminder of how quickly her baby days are going by. I sat down to nurse her, smoothing her little rose-covered nightgown around her legs, and she turned her face to me, eyes squinched closed, and said, "Va va va va." Va va, indeed.
Tomorrow we'll start the day with a little shopping, lunch, her birthday portraits, then we're off to go swimming. We took Izzy to an outdoors pool for his first birthday, but we'll be going indoors for hers. Her Aunt Micki, who has them call her Mimi, remembered this and took the day off work to spend with Sophie. We should have a great day. Then we'll have dinner with Daddy and come back and get ready for her party on Saturday. The theme will be, "Love," which is also her third name. Such an appropriate name for such a loving and loved baby.
Happy Birthday, baby. You've made our family perfect and complete, as well as a lot more fun. You rock, and I love you very, very much.
