Today has been a difficult day. Chris threw up a couple of times this morning, so he's stayed in bed all day long (yes, it's now 5:30 p.m. and he's still there). The kids are feeling kind of icky and super-whiny, and my face has swollen back up with a ton of infection, and now I'm feeling sick and achy too. To say we're grouchy would be an understatement.
I came down here to surf for a while and Sophie followed me to play. I heard her dump out a bag of toys, so I went over to make her pick them up. She very sweetly picked each farm animal up and put them back into the baggie. I gave her a hug and told her I was proud of her and she beamed up at me. Then she sighed deeply and went over to Izzy's SpongeBob chair and sank into it, upside down and just laid there. She sighed deeply. I did too.
I slid out of the green slice chair onto the floor and I rolled over to where she lay head-first on the floor and I tickled her tummy. We giggled, then I rolled over on my back on the play rug. She crawled over to me and curled up on my outstretched arm and we both sighed deeply, enjoying the rays of the late-afternoon sun coming through the window and warming our skin.
I rolled over to pick up a few puzzle pieces and when I rolled back, her arm was outstretched, so I lightly curled up on it, resting my head in the crook of her neck. She giggled, then lifted her head up to look at me. I lifted mine up to look at her and we laughed. She then pushed my head back down on her arm. We did this several times, then I asked her, "Are you the mommy?" She smiled at me, then leaned down and gave me a little kiss on the forehead. I gave her a big hug and sighed again.
But this time it was a sigh of contentment.
