I was watching my latest obsession today, Baby Story. There was a little boy of 2 1/2 on there and he refused to acknowledge that he had a new baby brother. Just totally acted like the baby didn't exist.
That made me remember Izzy's reaction when he first met Sophie. He walked into the room, saw me sitting there with Sophie on my lap, walked over and kissed her on the top of her head. Then he climbed up beside me and patted his lap. He was a late talker, and at 22 months, he really had very few words, but he was really good at getting his point across. I handed the baby to him, carefully of course, and he gazed at her with total adoration and kept hugging and kissing her.
At home, it was more of the same. He never acted jealous, but rather just very proud. He still calls her his baby.
I really hope Sophie, who will be three when this new baby comes, is half as glad to be a big sister as Izzy was to be a big brother. She has a much more jealous personality, but she also adores babies just as much as Izzy, so I really think it will all go well. Fingers crossed!
