A few of my favorite things.

Izzy's taking a much needed nap, and I was, as always, starving, so I fixed me up a big ol' plate of Doritoes with cheese melted on them, and hot pepper flakes. And Tabasco. I'll probably pay for that. Sick or starving, that's my life at this stage of the pregnancy.

Anyhow, eating that got me to thinking about how I can remember the first time I ever ate my favorite foods.

Tabasco: In college, having potato soup at McIntosh's with my friend Denise. She got me to try it, and now I'm addicted. Seriously. I sometimes drink the stuff straight.

Olives: After Thanksgiving, when I was 7 or 8, we were having turkey salad sandwiches and dad got me to try an olive. I have an olive problem too.

Doritoes w/melted cheese: At my Aunt Sandy's house in Virginia Beach during a family vacation when I think I was maybe 9 or 10. I remember being amazed that something so simple tasted so good - and that my family had never thought to try it. Now we're all addicted.

Caprese: On vacation with Chris, in Williamsburg, VA, I believe, we ate at Portofino's. That might not be the name. But we tried the Caprese appetizer and I fell in love with fresh mozzarella, good olive oil, fresh basil, and balsamic vinegar. It took a little longer to fall in love with the tomatoes, but now I could eat it every day. I craved fresh tomatoes with Izzy, and made myself many Caprese salads.

There you have it. My gustatory history, for your reading pleasure.
