I had a Tupperware party tonight. Well, actually, it was a BeautiControl Spa Party. The only other home party I've ever had was a Mary Kay one for my best friend, and it was only like three or four people. That was ten years ago.
We actually had a lot of fun tonight, but I felt like SUCH a dork inviting people. I only had it for two reasons: 1. It helped my sister get a bunch of free stuff, and 2. I got a free lavender neck pillow. This is why most women have these types of parties - greed. At least I'm honest about it.
But I'm really not the kind of woman to have or attend these home parties. THEY ARE SO IGNORANT IT HURTS. My main opposition to them is that everything is so ridiculously overpriced. At my sister's party, I bought an $8 bar of soap. Do I love it? Oh yeah. It's awesome. Tomato Basil. Smells like summer. BUT EIGHT DOLLARS FOR SOAP? Have I lost my mind?
The last party I attended, before my sister's, was hosted by the afore mentioned best friend. I paid $20 for fake metal/stone earrings. Are they pretty? Yes, very, and they match a bracelet I got for Mother's Day a couple of years ago. But the bracelet, which is sterling silver and has real gemstones in it, COST ABOUT THE SAME. It was on sale at K-mart.
I am a very cheap person. One of my old coworkers hated it when I said that. She called me thrifty. She was being polite. I don't buy full-priced clothes for me EVER, and rarely for the kids. I like to know that I'm getting the best possible price for whatever I'm about to buy, and I know for a fact that I'm getting the highest possible price at a home party.
That having been said, I usually do enjoy those parties. *sigh* I like adult interaction. And everyone always has great snacks. I guess it's a small price to pay for making my family and friends happy. But I don't think I'll have any more of these parties for another ten years.

Very funny, I had an Arbonne party for the same reason.
I went to a pampered chef party - luckily I did not fall for the ice scream scoop that I later purchased at Walmart for 1/2 the price!
I am so glad to hear that I m not the only one who thinks the parties are way overpriced.
LOL they are overpriced but I love the Beauty control stuff. It is the only thing that got my skin under control and the only moisturizer I can use. Besides, at least the parties are an hour of spa pampering. Some parties let you do one hand or one leg- this is a pamperfest *sigh*
