Sophie's big first day!

There was crying and there was a little bit of screaming, "Mommy, mommy!," but all in all it went pretty good. When I picked her up, her teacher told me that she'd been very good and had had a blast playing. She looked so shy walking down the sidewalk holding her teacher's hand. That was the first time I'd left her longer than an hour with anyone outside of the family. In fact, the only time she's been with non-family members was a few times at church. Which actually also resulted in much wailing most of the time.
In the picture above, I snuck a shot through the door window. She's sitting on the aide's lap, and she's most unhappy. But I'm sure she'll be doing great after a couple of more drop-offs. Izzy is already doing much better, and he's way more introverted than Sophie.

Speaking of whom, she just started crying while I was typing that, so I went upstairs to find her rolling around on the floor across the room from her bed, holding her teddy bear and saying something that I think was, "I play, I play." I took her to the bathroom and then back to her bed and she was protesting all the time with the same thing over and over. I told her I couldn't understand and she said, "Please, mama, I play." So I asked her if she wanted to play and she shook her head yes and started crying. I told her that she could play tomorrow but that only made it worse. "I PLAY! I PLAY!"

Finally I just told her okay and she settled back down. Hard to tell what was just going on in that cute little noggin of hers. Then again, it's always hard to tell what's going on her head. She's a fascinating creature, this little daughter of mine.
It was hard to watch her walk away from me today, knowing that those few steps were just the beginning of a lifetime of moving further and further away from her mama. Especially if I do my job right.

What a cutie! I know how it broke your heart to watch her go. I had to watch three of you do it! The good part is that you look back occassionaly!

In that last picture Sophie looks a little bit like a ladybug!
