Izzy and Sophie fill my days with so many precious moments that it kills me not to be able to write them all down, take pictures of them all day long, record their entire lives on video. Blogging helps. But I just want to capture so much of it as quick as I can because they are growing up soooo fast. Izzy will THREE soon! Sophie will turn ONE in a couple of weeks!
We went out for pizza over the weekend and before we got there I told Izzy that he had to wait until he ate his pizza to go play the video games. I dread the day he realizes they're a lot more fun when you put a quarter in. When we got there, the kids and I stayed in the van for a few minutes while Chris got the order placed. I figured it would make it easier for Izzy.
I get let him get in the front with me and I go ahead and nurse Sophie. He's playing around, looking in the mirror at himself, hiding in the floor, just having a great time. Then I smelled a bad smell and I could tell it wasn't Sophie. I asked Izzy, "Did you just toot?"
He looked a like he'd got caught and said, "Oh, yes - 'cuse me!" I cracked up and complimented his manners. We've been working on this, so it was nice to see that it's getting through. I just wanted to see if he needed to go potty, where he thought I was going to tell him to excuse himself. He tries so hard to do the right thing, and his manners are really exceptional. Well, exceptional when you can get him to slow down for a few minutes. One thing my kids have a lot of is energy.
And bodily fluids. Night before last, Izzy ran in to my bedside to tell me he was getting sick and before I could really wake up, he puked down my arm. Chris changed the bed while I got me & Izzy both cleaned up and tucked Izzy back in. He seemed like he was feeling fine, but he was awfully good all day Monday which should have served as a warning.
Last night he was up at 2 and 3, but he went back to sleep fairly quickly both times. Then, a few minutes after 6, he came in again telling me his belly hurt and I was at least able to push him back from me, but he threw up on the bedspread and a throw rug. While I'm getting him all cleaned up and cleaning up the floor, Sophie, who came to bed with us at about 1:30 last night, wakes up. I put her on the floor to keep her from falling. This does not make her happy, and hearing her cry makes my breasts start leaking, which they hadn't done in ages.
Finally I'm able to crawl back in bed, this time with both her and Izzy, but both of them are wide awake so we're up for the day. I called mom at about 9 to tell her I wasn't going to need to bring her the kids today so I could go to the gym, since Izzy seemed to be getting sick. While talking to her, I realize Sophie has pooped, so I say my goodbyes while Sophie crawls down the hall after her brother.
I follow, and there sits Izzy on the toilet, also pooping. That's good, I think, because they generally poop only once a day, and I prefer it to be before we all shower. I get him cleaned up and headed to the shower and I go to change Sophie. Her diaper has leaked a little while she was playing in the bathroom with Izzy. Ick. So my arm has been contaminated, along with her changing table cover. I get everything all cleaned up and I carry a naked Sophie to the bathroom with me.
While I'm adjusting the water temperature, I realize that there is a stream of water running down my leg. Oh wait, that's not water! It's Sophie's urine! So within my first three hours this morning, I had pee, peep, puke and breast milk on me. And only one of these bodily fluids was my own.
This was one of the few days that I didn't feel the urge to record it all for posterity.
